Message from the Head of the Department :

Welcome to the Department of Pharmacy, Southern University Bangladesh. The university enriched with a beautiful permanent campus at the heart of Chattogram. The Department of Pharmacy of Southern University Bangladesh started its journey in 24th January, 2006 under the Faculty of Science and Engineering and approved by the University Grants Commission (UGC) and Pharmacy Council of Bangladesh (PCB).  Pharmacy is a versatile, dynamic and fast-growing professional subject all over the world including Bangladesh. Pharmacy practice today is one of the most essential components in offering standard knowledge. Because of its enormous contribution to our health-care system, “Pharmacy” has always been a high priority choice to the students coming for university education. Pharmacy graduates could serve in different areas of health care system including hospital pharmacy, clinical pharmacy, community pharmacy, industrial pharmacy, pharmaceutical marketing, research etc. ‘The Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.) courses have been designed for students to acquire sufficient understanding of the principles, practices, and techniques of the pharmaceutical sciences. After completion of the courses, students will acquire coordinated understanding, comprehensive knowledge, and expertise in all disciplines of pharmacy practice and education. The degree of Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.) is conferred by the university when a student satisfactorily complete all the required courses offered to him/her over a period of four academic years. Each academic year is divided into two semesters.

Bachelor of Pharmacy (Hons.)

The department of pharmacy provides undergraduate program (Bachelor of Pharmacy) which is a 4-year program with 166 credits divided into eight consecutive semesters. Our department offers a world class quality Pharmacy education to those who wish to develop their career in different branches of pharmacy such as pharmacology, phytochemistry, drug discovery and development, drug manufacturing, scientific education and also higher education. The department of Pharmacy also offers one month of Internship program to the various reputed pharmaceutical industries for the outgoing students. Our department designed with highly qualified faculty members, advanced lab facilities (Nine laboratories including a research laboratory), modern class rooms, own seminar library, various co-curricular and extra-curricular activities and a strong alumni association through which the students will have the opportunity to enjoy their study and prepare themselves for the future competitive world.

Student Admission Policy

Eligibility for admission in B. Pharm. according to the Guidelines of Pharmacy Council Bangladesh:

  • The applicant must become a permanent citizen of Bangladesh. Foreign students are eligible to apply for admission in foreign quota only, as designated by the government.
  • Candidate must have a minimum aggregate GPA 8.00 in SSC/ “O” level or equivalent and HSC/ “A” level or equivalent examinations (in a total scale of 10).
  • Candidate must pass SSC or recognized equivalents and HSC or recognized equivalents in Science Group and obtain a minimum GPA 3.5 (in a scale of 5) with a minimum GPA 3.5 in Physics and GPA 4.0 in Chemistry and Biology in both SSC and HSC or recognized equivalents. In case of “A” level the candidate must have “B” grade in Chemistry and Biology and “C” grade in Physics and mathematics.
  • However, candidates having no Mathematics at the HSC/ “A” level or recognized equivalents may be admitted, but they need to take an extra 3 (three) credits course on Mathematics relevant to B. Pharm. curriculum.
  • Candidate must pass HSC (Except “A” level) or recognized equivalent examination with a minimum GPA 3.5 in Mathematics (in a scale of 5).
  • Candidate must pass HSC/ “A” level or recognized equivalent examination in current year or one previous year.
  • Foreign students must have passed 12 education years and got same grades in equivalent examinations from foreign recognized institutions.
  • The student must pass HSC/ “A” level or recognized equivalents with the following science subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.
  • Admission based on competitive written test evaluations. In addition to written test, an oral test may be taken for further assessment. (Recognized equivalents mean Education Board, Madrasah Board and Bangladesh Technical Education Board)
  • In the first semester of the first academic year, within the three months of admission, the enrolled students must apply online through the university, including the pre-registration fee, to be listed in the Bangladesh Pharmacy Council.
